MASH Trust is a leading provider of mental health, disability, addiction recovery and youth support services in the lower North Island, supporting more than 2,000 people and whānau through a workforce of over 600 employees across Wellington, Kapiti, Horowhenua, Manawatu, Whanganui and Hawke’s Bay.
About the role
You will lead MASH Trust’s payroll function, ensuring we deliver accurate, timely and compliant payroll services that support operational excellence and a positive employee experience. Leading the payroll team, you’ll take ownership of payroll processing, legislative compliance, governance, reporting, and continuous improvement - while acting as the business owner and subject matter expert for our payroll systems.
This role requires someone with proven experience in a Payroll Manager or similar payroll leadership role within a complex, multi-site or 24/7 organisation. You’ll be comfortable interpreting multiple employment agreements and complex remuneration arrangements, and confident providing expert payroll advice across a large, varied workforce.
Hours - This role is full-time, 80 hours per fortnight
What you’ll do
- Lead and develop a capable, customer-focused payroll team
- Ensure accurate, timely and legislatively compliant payroll delivery
- Own payroll governance, controls, and risk management
- Deliver meaningful payroll reporting to support decision-making
- Act as subject matter expert for PayGlobal, optimising the system and its integration with Workday HCM, scheduling, recruitment and finance systems
- Provide expert payroll advice to managers, People & Culture, and employees
- Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures and controls
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including IRD, ACC, KiwiSaver providers, and system vendors
Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in a Payroll Manager or similar payroll leadership role within a medium to large, complex organisation
- Experience managing complex payroll operations in a multi-site and/or 24/7 environment
- Previous experience using PayGlobal system would be beneficial
- Extensive knowledge of New Zealand payroll legislation, employment agreements and statutory obligations
- Experience interpreting and applying multiple employment agreements and complex remuneration arrangements
- Experience optimising payroll systems and supporting enterprise system integrations
- Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel skills
- Experience in the health, social services, public or not-for-profit sector is advantageous
- Relevant tertiary qualification (payroll, HR, business, accounting) or equivalent experience
- Full, clean NZ driver’s licence and ability to travel across our sites
